Albania eSIM guide — Tirana, the coast and road trips
Albania is in Europe but outside EU roaming. Prepare maps for Tirana, the Riviera and border-crossing days.
Albania can fit a Tirana weekend or a longer Balkan road trip. Being in Europe does not mean your EU home data allowance applies. Choose data for your itinerary and download routes before you set off.
Does EU roaming apply?
Albania is outside the EU roaming area. EU roaming does not apply automatically to an EU home subscription. Western Balkan roaming arrangements or optional operator bundles are separate from EU roam-like-at-home; check your exact tariff.
Local networks & coverage
Vodafone Albania and One Albania are local mobile operators, as listed by the Albanian regulator AKEP. That does not guarantee that Mango can use both. Check coverage for your specific accommodation and driving route; mountains, indoor locations and road sections may affect reception. Keep offline directions for coastal drives and mountain trips.
Install before departure
Do this on Wi-Fi at home, before you fly. Wi-Fi is required to download the eSIM. Check that your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. After checkout, use the QR sent by email. On iPhone: Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Data, then Add eSIM (it may say Set Up Cellular). If you see Other Options, tap that, then Use QR Code. On Android: Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs, then Add eSIM. The new line can install turned off. On arrival, turn the Mango line on, set mobile data to Mango, and turn Data Roaming on for Mango only. Turn off data roaming and cellular data switching on your home line to avoid unexpected charges. Your usual number stays for calls and texts. Calls and texts on your home line still follow your home operator's tariff.
Which Mango plan fits?
Visit is the single-country option for Albania. Europe Loop is also an option for a multi-country trip; check its destination list against every stop. Mango provides unlimited data with a fair-use throttle instead of a data cutoff. The current Visit price and daily high-speed allowance are shown above from the same catalogue as the destination page. Check the monthly terms and fair-use line in the shop before paying.
Practical tips
- Save directions out of Tirana airport and your accommodation address before landing.
- For a Balkan road trip, check every next country in your chosen plan before crossing a border.
